Manifesto

Engineering teams own their domain

Teams within Storio Group are fully autonomous within their domain and responsible for their results. Engineers are always involved when we decide how and what is built, so that we build the right thing. Ownership of a product is vertical: The team develops, tests and deploys the product and has access to the data needed for further development and decision making.

We deliver great products to our customers: From the editors to the plant

As engineers we aim to deliver high quality products, because it will make us proud and our customers happy. We focus on delivering the right solutions that our customers will love: beautiful, fast and reliable. To build these solutions we start small and gather feedback early and often and minimize waste by eliminating manual work where possible.

We deliver our work transparently and collaboratively

Within Storio Group we work according to the principles of inner source: Our work is documented and easy to find within the organization, and we encourage people to work on projects outside their domain when needed. By adopting these principles we share our knowledge and experience and foster cross-team collaboration. We have a bias for action.

We communicate clearly and in the open

Important decisions are made collaboratively, in the open. When there is doubt about what needs to be done, the communication about it is shared in the open, and engineers are pro-actively involved in the decision process. We encourage everyone to voice their ideas, questions and opinions, especially when there are concerns. We are positive and supportive, but we do not shy away from discussion. We ask for help, assistance or guidance if needed. We continuously provide direct feedback to help each other to improve. We focus on personal relationships.

Teams are empowered with the tools and resources needed to develop their products

The IT Leaders ensure that everyone has access to the tools needed for a modern, effective and healthy development environment. This encapsulates everything from personal hardware to cloud services. Teams are encouraged to experiment with new ideas, tools, processes.

Simplify, automate, standardize

To support our goal of being able to focus on impact rather than technology decision making we take the approach to simplify, automate and standardise our technology. This allows us to leverage collective learning as well and ensure that teams are able to work and to have impact across as much of our product surface as possible. Whenever we build something we use documentation, automation and close collaboration with stakeholders to deliver value without the need for product and technical support.

Build, Measure, Learn, Iterate

In order to reduce waste and focus on impact areas, we validate our hypotheses with data as soon as possible. We release early, gather data and run experiments. To enable this teams are empowered with the data they need and the ability to iterate rapidly. When an experiment has succeeded, we release as soon as possible.
